Final ‘Annette’ Trailer: Adam Driver & Marion Cotillard Star In A Surreal Musical For Leos Carax Featuring Sparks Music

Since it opened the Cannes Film Festival in July, presumably by now you’ve heard all about “Annette,” the avante garde rock opera musical by the great Leos Carax (“Holy Motors“) featuring the music of the avante-pop band Sparks (featured in Edgar Wright‘s recent documentary “The Sparks Brothers“) and featuring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard.

Reception at Cannes was a bit muted and or all over the place, from puzzled faces to raves.  Our critic gave “Annette” a positive review and but noted, it’s even weird and bizarre for fans of Sparks and Carax, “It’s an odd film and a fascinating one—narratively simplistic, artistically complex—at times ravishing and then puzzling, much like the enigmatic films of Carax and the idiosyncratic music of Sparks.”

The movie also features Simon Helberg, Devyn McDowel and it’s basically a big romantic tragedy about fame, love and exploitation. Here’s the official synopsis:

While “Annette” did not take the Palme d’Or prize, the best director award did go to Leos Carax for creating this strange, singular vision and that’s certainly a testament to the unique thing he crafts with this movie. Amazon Studios will release “Annette” in theaters on August 6th, 2021 On Prime Video August 20th, 2021. Watch the final trailer below.
