Everyone needs a bit of distraction from staying away from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” spoilers. One way you can do that is by going through our Best Films Of 2017, and once you’ve done that, you might want to see how it stacks up against the selections from the venerable Film Comment.
The votes from contributors to the terrific movie magazine lean arthouse, but we have (mostly) no fault with their selections. In fact, we’re pretty pleased to see under the radar movies like “Nocturama,” “Ex Libris: The New York Public Library,” and “Faces Places” get some love alongside cherished 2017 pictures “Good Time,” “Get Out,” and “Lady Bird.”
As always, Film Comment also shines a light on 2017 movies that didn’t hit cinemas — some of which don’t even have distribution yet — with festival pictures like “A Gentle Creature,” “Mrs. Fang,” and “Spoor” getting honored.
