Two years can be the lifetime in the development of a movie, and when you don’t hear any news, it’s generally not good news. And while we’ve heard pretty much zilch about “On The Basis Of Sex” since it was announced in 2015, it looks like the movie is picking up steam again.
Deadline reports that Felicity Jones has replaced Natalie Portman in the biopic about Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Originally slated to be directed by “The Diary Of A Teenage Girl” helmer Marielle Heller, Mimi Leder (“The Leftovers,” “Deep Impact“) will now get behind the camera of the Daniel Stiepleman penned script, which tells the story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she faced numerous obstacles to her fight for equal rights over the years.
Focus Features and Participant Media are behind this one, and with production slated to begin this fall in Montreal, you can bet they’re keeping a spot on next year’s Oscar calendar for this one. Indeed, Jones already has one nomination under her belt for “The Theory Of Everything,” and this looks like it could deliver another.
