Got a Tip?

‘The Favourite’ & ‘Shoplifters’ Are Two Of The Best Films Of The Year [Adjust Your Tracking]

On this episode of Adjust Your Tracking, Joe and I open things up with a brief look at the top movies in last weekend’s box office, most of which we have no interest in even seeing, so we use it as a launching point to implore you, dear listener, to see our two films of interest this week, “The Favourite” and “Shoplifters,” both of which open in limited release this week and open wider (we hope) in the coming weeks. For us, these are two of the very best films to come out this year, and we highly recommend you see them if/when possible.

The Favourite” is the latest bizarro dark comedy from the brilliant, deranged Yorgos Lanthimos, whose previous films ” “The Lobster,” “Killing Of A Sacred Deer,” “Dogtooth” and even “Alps” (see it!) have been highly touted on the podcast when they came out. He’s one of our absolute favorites (ha!) and we just can’t get enough of his wonderful work. “Shoplifters” won the Palme d’or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and for good reason. Now that we’ve seen it we can’t deny it’s one of the most touching and beautiful films about family to come out in a long while. Director Hirokazu Kore-eda is a master of the craft, and this one just may be his peak effort in a long and fruitful career so far. Both films are excellent, and so, we discuss!
