Given that they were already on a tight schedule to meet a 2014 release date prior to Paul Walker‘s death, it’s not a surprise that Universal is now giving themselves a bit more breathing room to complete “Fast & Furious 7.”
Vin Diesel dropped the word on his glorious Facebook page over the weekend that the gasoline fueled sequel will now land on April 15, 2015. Yes, that’s right, yet another sequel has been added to the stuffed box of blockbusters for 2015, though nothing else is currently scheduled on that weekend. Here’s Diesel’s comments about the release date maneuver:
There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared… in the film we were now completing… the magic captured… and, in just how far we’ve come…
Fast and Furious 7 will be released…
April 10th 2015!
P.s. He’d want you to know first…
What isn’t known at this point is what the exact method of triage will be on the movie. Walker still had “key scenes” left to be shot, and one option being reportedly mulled by the studio was scrapping what has been done already and starting over. And Universal isn’t exactly spilling the beans, their official press release on the date does state that “Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead the returning cast.” Deadline notes that production will resume early next year, and suggests that franchise will pivot from the duo of Dominic and Brian into more of an ensemble feel.
Meanwhile, tell your kids that “Ice Age 5” is coming on July 15, 2016. Hooray. It takes the place of another Fox animated project titled “Anubis,” which has been bumped back to 2018.
