Continuity! For those of you left hanging about what ever happened to Sean Boswell from “Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift,” your dreams are about to come true. Lucas Black is returning to the gear head franchise not just for “Fast & Furious 7,” but with options for three more movies. Seriously. We suppose this guy will be integral to wherever this series is headed next. [Deadline]
While we’re still figuring out our feelings about the somewhat odd cast of Ridley Scott‘s Bible epic “Exodus“—Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, Ben Kingsley, John Turturro and Sigourney Weaver—names are continuing to get added, with Maria Valverde the latest to come aboard. The Spanish actress will play Bale’s wife in the film. [Fotogramas]
Rising actor Riz Ahmed, seen most recently in the political legal thriller “Closed Circuit,” has joined Jake Gyllenhaal in “Nightcrawler.” Co-starring Rene Russo and marking the directorial debut of screenwriter Dan Gilroy (“Real Steel,” “The Bourne Legacy”), the film tells the story of a driven young man (Gyllenhaal) who discovers the nocturnal world of freelance crime journalism in Los Angeles. Ahmed will play Gyllenhaal’s “driver and protege.” Production kicks off next month. [The Wrap]
The districts keep expanding, with “American Horror Story” star Lily Rabe joining “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay” (both parts) as Commander Lyme. Here’s the Wiki summary of her character: “Lyme was a past victor of an unknown Hunger Games, a Commander of the rebellion in District 2, and a strong independent woman. She was willing to do anything for District 2 to become aligned with the other districts against the Capitol.” [Deadline]
Lastly, with Rob Lowe set to depart “Parks and Recreation” in the middle of the forthcoming season (boo!), he’s lining up movie work, taking a role in “Sex Tape.” The Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz-starring film follows a married couple who take a night off from their kids and decide to spice up their lives by making a sex tape. But when they wake up the next morning from their night of amateur porno making, the tape is gone and they have to track it down. Lowe is taking the role of “a mysterious, and highly strung CEO of a publicly traded Children’s Toy Company who inadvertently receives the couples tape, which they must attempt to steal back.” In related news, he’s also playing JFK in the upcoming “Killing Kennedy,” which airs on November 10th. Here’s the trailer, and yeah, it’s about as strange as you might expect. [Deadline]
When Deadline said the next three movies, I think they were including Fast 7, since this one is meant to start a new trilogy.
Exodus cast members: 7
Jews in Exodus cast: 0
Maybe they'll get one Jewish actor to play the token "bad Jew" a la Edward G. Robinson back in 1956.
