The messiness of family and all its glory is front and center in Judd Apatow's upcoming dramedy, "This Is 40." The "sort-of sequel" to 2007's "Knocked Up," this more grown-up comedy expands on the family in the film played by Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann and the kids Maude and Iris Apatow. ''People really responded to Pete and Debbie, and I thought it would be fun to see where they are now,'' Apatow told EW recently. ''I come from television, so I want there to be 80 episodes of everything.''
In the film, Peter and Debbie are both hitting the big 4-0 and their eldest daughter Said (played by Maude Apatow) is smack dab in her teenage angst years. School pressures, financial problems and marital discord start to set in and the parental figures attempt the goal of some family "self-improvement" rules to very mixed results.
Suffice to say, family is center stage in the movie and so is the latest crop of photos, which features the entire cast including Megan Fox, Jason Segel, Melissa McCarthy, Chris O'Dowd, Albert Brooks, Lena Dunham, John Lithgow, Charlyne Yi and many more.
''I've covered college, marriage, having a baby, turning 40, and fatal diseases — there's almost nothing left at this point. I'm going to have to switch to science fiction,' Apatow joked to the magazine. That would be a sight to see wouldn't it? Until then "This Is 40" hits theaters in wide release on December 21.
RE: Rodie
Would anyone cast Leslie Mann in a female lead, let alone a special guest spot on a CW show?
And what about Apatow's daughters. Are they even "actresses".
It was cute when he gave them very small roles in Knocked Up. But I walked out of Funny People the second we had to sit through a CATS performance w/ his daughter. Or the constant scenes where men drool over his wife's body ? This stuff makes me realize that Apatow is out of touch w/ normal life and thus his comedy is striking out more and more. He's the Mitt Romney of Directors (Rich , Boring and talking about something he did 10 years ago as a reason for him to lead).
Apatow has twice taken too much credit for other people's work. Feig was the true genius behind Freaks & Geeks. Carrel wrote & came up with the story of the 40 year old virgin.
Feig was even on board to direct ( but Apatow over-wrote it)

Who's the more nepotistic, solipsistic Hollywood heavy: Will Smith or Judd Apatow? My god, and who let Megan Fox do that to her own face? She used to be quite pretty.
She looks like a Mexican teenager.
