At first glance, we can all pretty much guess the trajectory of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” The six-episode series picks up after the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) deciding whether or not he’s ready to step into the role of Captain America. So, with that knowledge and the trailer for the series, we can guess what’s going to happen, right? Well, not really, according to the folks behind the new Marvel Studios show. There are plenty of spoilers that are definitely not known at this time.
Astute Marvel fans can piece together the fact that ‘Falcon’ is likely going to be about Sam Wilson’s struggle to step into the role of Captain America, fighting a new, more evil version of Baron Zemo, taking on the bad-guy version of Cap in USAgent, and eventually stepping into the role of Captain America for good. But what we don’t know are the little details in between and what Falcon’s new role as Cap means for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And those are the things that Kevin Feige and showrunner Malcolm Spellman are keeping mum about.

In regards to how “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” might lead into future films and possible new seasons of the show, Spellman told EW recently that he can think of three projects in the future that directly tie into this series that he’s “not allowed to talk about.” Feige goes further and says that talking about multiple seasons and future appearances for these characters goes into “the spoiler realm” but says, “ “We have a future charted for characters post-‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier,’ but I don’t want to say much more than that.”
There are rumors and speculation that ‘Falcon’ could directly tie into “Black Widow,” which arrives in May. And if Mackie does indeed take on the mantle of Captain America, we can assume he’ll figure into the future of the MCU in a big, big way. But we’ll just have to wait a couple of months to find out how.
As for other teases and potential spoilers for “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Feige talked about how the show might actually be the first example of the integration of the Fox/Disney merger. Sure, we saw Evan Peters in “WandaVision,” but that was a gag more than anything. In ‘Falcon,’ Feige says there’s a direct reference to a location that would have been impossible to feature before Marvel gained the Fox characters.

“There’s a setting in particular that people have already glimpsed in some of the trailers that is a setting from the Marvel Comics that was not previously available to us, but it’s more of an Easter egg in and of itself,” teased Feige.
The Baxter Building maybe? Perhaps the Negative Zone? Genosha? Comic book fans will be scratching their heads and speculating about this until the answer is revealed, that’s for sure. “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” debuts on March 19.
