Netflix is going back to one of their biggest original features with “Extraction 2.” Little is known about the film’s plot but the service is pulling out all the stops. For those unfamiliar with the basic premise, “Extraction” sees a mercenary with little left to lose on a dangerous mission to rescue a young prisoner. The result is an action-packed venture with everything audiences love about the genre. Production on “Extraction 2” was set to include Australia; those plans changed due to the current pandemic and have added European locations such as Prague.
During the streamer’s big event, TUNDUM, they’ve had Chris Hemsworth introduce an announcement video (see below) that his character Tyler Rake has survived the first movie.
No word on how this alters the storyline, if at all. The quick move also ensures the film stays on schedule for a possible release next year.
Chris Hemsworth returns as Tyler Rake. Getting in shape for the role is something the actor takes seriously, even detailing his intensive workouts on Instagram. It’s a change to everything Hemsworth sculpted for the upcoming “Thor: Love and Thunder.” The rest of the cast for “Extraction 2” have not been revealed. Rake could be facing an entirely new set of characters this time or find some familiar faces along the way.
Behind the scenes, Hemsworth reunites with director Sam Hargrave and writer Joe Russo. Hargrave has worked on numerous films as part of the stunt department — the original “Extraction” finally offering the chance to direct a feature. Time spent helming shorts as well as work with the stunt community helped inspire some of the first film’s most breathtaking scenes. Joe Russo also comes to the project with an impressive set of credits. Along with brother Anthony, Joe guided Marvel’s biggest titles “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
What happens when mercenary Tyler Rake goes back into action? The answer will be revealed when Netflix’s “Extraction 2” comes to the streaming service.
