The trailer for Mike Judge’s “Extract” has hit the web, and it looks fun, potentially insightful, but pretty broad. Not only do you have your lead in an unfortunate haircut, but there’s a bit about a married couple with a poor sex life, a classic soul music cue, a testicle joke (and callback) and a stoner best friend (Ben Affleck?). Pretty well-worn territory, and hard to say audiences who see this ad on the big screen won’t be afflicted with a heavy case of deja vu.
Still, strong cast- alongside Affleck is star Jason Bateman as a frustrated flower extract executive, supported by Mila Kunis, Kristin Wiig, J.K. Simmons and Clifton Collins Jr. We think Mike Judge’s “Office Space” earns its cult comedy tag, and “Idiocracy” has several moments of inspired brilliance, so we’re optimistic. Take a look for yourself. “Extract” is due in theaters September 4.
looks really funny
idiocracy isn’t perfect but it’s very underrated in my estimation. so many laugh out loud moments.
Would be better if it was Casey Affleck instead of Ben…in fact, every film would be better like that.
I didn’t like Idiocracy outside of the excellent premise and the auspicious first 10-15 minutes, but i think this looks genuinely funny.
Idiocracy was like a crazy first draft that should have been honed into something better before filming commenced. This looks great though. Mila Kunis is a vision.
I completely agree. Idiocracy’s become so overevaluated simply because it basically went straight to DVD and people felt it deserved so much more, but it’s kind of crap.
