Exclusive Video: Renny Harlin Talks ‘5 Days of War’

nullIn "Five Days Of War," director Renny Harlin shows us a very different side of himself. Most view him as a poster child for the excess of nineties-era action films, as the architect behind "Die Hard 2," "The Long Kiss Goodnight" and "Cliffhanger." But few realized he would ever be interested in turning an eye towards the real life tragedy of the Russo-Georgia War, a five day conflict where the world sat by and watched as one much more powerful country inhabited the other, reigning bloodshed on the people of Georgia in an attempted regional takeover.

We called the film both viscerally violent and a vital "tribute to the people of Georgia and the journalists who aided them" and today we present you with this exclusive clip straight from the upcoming DVD. Here, Harlin discusses why he needed to tell this particular story, but why he also felt the need to inject his own particular sensibility. You don't hire an action expert to make a small drama, so Harlin seems particularly dedicated to printing the legend, in the hope that the story carries through.

Starring Andy Garcia, Rupert Friend, Emmanuelle Chiriqui, Rade Serbedzija and Val Kilmer, "Five Days Of War" comes out on DVD on Tuesday, November 29th.

  1. The Playlist was probably the only outlet in the entire Western hemisphere that gave this piece of crap any sort of praise, it really brought down their credibility in terms of reviews.
