The madness of rural or backwoods communities have always been a staple of the horror genre, but it’s one that continues to inspire filmmakers. And the latest journey to the eerie is “Jug Face,” a Slamdance entry this year in Park City, written and directed by Chad Crawford Kinkle.
Featuring an eclectic cast including Lauren Ashley Carter, Sean Young, Sean Bridgers, Larry Fessenden and Daniel Manche, the movie follows Ada, who is pregnant with her younger brother’s child and is determined to save her own life and that of her child. But things take a twist when the face on a newly crafted ceramic mug points reveals that someone must be sacrificed to the pit to prevent an evil entity from entering the community. And in this scene, we see as everyone gathers to determine what to do as they await the revelation of the next victim.
“Jug Face” is now available on VOD and opens in theaters on August 9th.
