With “Sound Of My Voice,” director Zal Batmanglij, and co-writer and star Brit Marling, delved into the world of infiltration, exploring the repercussions of going down the rabbit hole and what happens when expectations are upended, and sympathies to cult behavior start to emerge. And it seems to be a theme that fascinates them as their latest collaboration in the upcoming thriller “The East” also dives into similar territory.
Marling leads the the film as former FBI agent Sarah Moss who takes up a job at an elite private intelligence firm headed up by Sharon (Patricia Clarkson). Sarah is assigned to go deep undercover to infiltrate the Anonymous-esque anarchist collective The East, who target major corporations guilty of criminal, moral and ethical crimes. Sarah successfully becomes one of them, but soon the lines between the responsibility to her job and her commitment to the cause begin to blur. And in these exclusive images from the movie — also featuring The East leader played by Alexander Skarsgård — we see the intensity that arises as Sarah involvement gets twisted around.
“The East” hits theaters on May 31st. Check out the images below along with a new featurette.
Love this film too, although haven't seen it.
Saw this movie by accident at SXSW on my last night and got really sucked into it. It kept me on the edge of my seat and my loyalties kept changing. Afterwards the cast and director did a talk and I was surprised to find out that the movie was made for a small budget. It's a great looking movie. Thanks for posting these.
