Exclusive: Mia Wasikowska & Zoe Aggeliki In The Mix For Johanna Mason In ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’

Mia WasikowskaWhile much of the casting chatter in recent weeks surrounding "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" has been around who will play Finnick Odair in the highly anticipated sequel, there are still more key characters to be cast. And some names are beginning to emerge for who might take the crucial role of Johanna Mason in the film.

Sources close to the project tell The Playlist that Mia Wasikowska and model/actress Zoe Aggeliki are in the mix for Johanna Mason. The character becomes a strong ally with Katniss and Peeta during the 75th Hunger Games, but has a testy relationship with Katniss who likens her to an older sister who hates you. She's a fierce competitor who has no family and friends left in District 7 where she hails, with her weapon of choice being an axe. Director Francis Lawrence is keen on finding the right actress to fit the part, and is looking at both big names and lesser known talents.

Both actresses have been in discussions for the part, and we hear that Aggeliki could sign in the coming days, but nothing is certain just yet. Aggeliki may not be a familiar face at the moment, but she'll be seen next summer in "R.I.P.D." and also landed a role in "Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters" as Silena Beauregard. Whoever does snag the role will not only appear in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" but in "Mockingjay" as well, as Johanna figures strongly in that story as well. Production on 'Catching Fire' begins later this year, and the film will hit theaters on November 22, 2013.

  1. I'm movie producer, i have already met Zoe in a casting agency, she auditionned and she was really awesome and talented! do not judge on appearance.

  2. Seriously, Zoe Aggeliki is hot! I want to see other "head" in movies such T Hunger Games! It should start one day, and if production is interested in Zoe, I think it is not for nothing! Lots of models become actresses… I read all the books, and in my personal opinion, Zoe looks like more Johanna than MIA!

  3. Agree with Brad! seriously, Mia not fit! Zoe is gorgeous! it's not because she's not famous that she cant play in Hunger Games, Mia is great, but i prefer Zoe

  4. I really think Zoe should be perfect! Because, first Zoe naturally Black hair, and she looks more thant her real age! She Fit the character! not Mia!

  5. I never thought of Mia, but I am totally loving that now! For some reason, I always thought of Kristen Bell as playing Johanna, though….

But my question is: who'll play my favorite characters: Mags, Beetee and Wiress?!?!

  6. I doubt Mia is concerned about playing "second fiddle", she doesn't seem arrogant at all. However, scheduling is likely to be a problem. Her next film Only Lovers Left Alive starts shooting in July.

  7. Mia W. …PLEASE. Johanna Mason is going to be a tough role to play, and a talented actress like Mia could be a great addition. Besides, I would love to watch Jennifer Lawrence and Mia Wasikowska act opposite each other!..two VERY talented actresses together in the same film would be lovely.

  8. This is a toughie. Out of the two of them, this isn't even a contest, but Mia has a whopping five other films on her slate and I do not want her to become overexposed.

I can't really see her playing second fiddle to Jen Lawrence, either (though she'd be reuniting with Josh Hutcherson from The Kids are All Right).

  9. I found this list on imdb. http://www.imdb.com/list/FpJDA9Bs4xQ/
there are some good Johanna choices there. Mia Wasikowska is a great actress, but I feel she's being a bit overused at the moment. Even though Wasikowska would be wonderful, it would be nice to have a new face. Not sure about Zoe Aggeliki. I haven't seen her in anything. I like some of the suggestions from the imdb list. Alicia Vikander would be good.

  10. Oh god, Jennifer Lawrence and Mia Wasikowska in a movie together? FUCK YES! It'll never happen though. Too good to be true, and all that.
