Stubborn, obnoxious, self-centered, mean… there are more than few words that describe Guy Trilby, and a lot of them not fit to print. He’s the prickly, rudely funny heart of “Bad Words,” the directorial debut of Jason Bateman, who also takes the lead role. And as the title suggests, this R-rated comedy doesn’t hold anything back.
Co-starring Allison Janney, Kathryn Hahn and Phillip Baker Hall, the film follows Guy, an angry 40 year-old who exploits a loophole in the rulebook in order to compete in the National Quill Spelling Bee… against a bunch of 8th graders. But why is he doing this? That’s what journalist Jenny Widgeon (Hahn) hopes to find, following Guy on his journey from competition to competition and eventually to the national championship. But as you’ll see in this exclusive clip, Guy is not the most cooperative interviewee.
“Bad Words” opens on in limited release on March 14th and across the country on March 28th. Watch below.
