It’s been a minute since we’ve seen actor and fashion line creator Tara Subkoff, known for "The Last Days of Disco,” “The Notorious Bettie Page” and her breakthrough ‘90s role in the teen drama “All Over Me” (though if you’ve paid close attention, you’ll note she’s made recent appearances on “The Kroll Show”). But she’s been up to something: her feature-length filmmaking debut “#HORROR,” which she directed, wrote and produced.
Inspired by actual events, “#HORROR” centers on a group of 12-year-old girls who face a night of terror when the compulsive addiction of an online social media game turns a moment of a cyber bullying to a night of insanity. “#HORROR” examines a world of escalating cruelty and alienation through an online game where scoring likes comes at the cost of human lives.
Appearing in the movie are a number of friends including Chloe Sevigny — who Subkoff launched the fashion line “Imitation of Christ” with — Timothy Hutton, Natasha Lyonne, Taryn Manning, Stella Schnabel and Balthazar Getty. The full cast includes Sadie Seelert, Haley Murphy, Bridget McGarry, Blue Lindeberg, Mina Sudwall, Emma Adler, Annabelle Dexter-Jones and Lydia Hearst.
“#HORROR” will screen in the Cannes Market this weekend and will receive an undisclosed film festival premiere in the fall. Those on the Croisette should look for a “Haunted House Party” on Sunday at Le Baron to celebrate the movie and watch for a special anti cyber-bullying “demonstration” stunt on Saturday afternoon.
