While Channing Tatum may have seemed like just another fresh face trying to make it in Hollywood when he first popped up in films like “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints” and “Step Up,” he’s been taking big strides towards having a much more multi-faceted and lasting impact on the industry. He’s been savvy with his movie choices, mixing up commercial fare with work for respected directors like Michael Mann, Kevin Macdonald, Ron Howard, Kimberly Peirce and Steven Soderbergh. But more than that, Tatum is now beginning to produce his own movies as well. The forthcoming “21 Jump Street” and “Magic Mike” with both find him tagged with a producer credit, but first out of the gate with that title against his name will be “Ten Year.”
Putting together a strong ensemble that includes Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Brian Geraghty, Anthony Mackie, Kate Mara, Rosario Dawson, Justin Long, Scott Porter, Chris Pratt, Aubrey Plaza and Oscar Isaac, the project comes from “Dear John” and “We Are Marshall” writer Jamie Linden (who is also making his directorial debut). The dramedy follows a group of friends who get together for their high school reunion, and this first clip nicely evinces the tone of humor and heart the film is going for, as Tatum’s character spies his ex (played by Rosario Dawson) eight years after they last spoke.
The film hits TIFF and will make its world premiere on Monday, September 12th at 9 PM at the Ryerson Theater. And keep an ear out too, as the soundtrack features tunes by Bob Dylan, The Pharcyde, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Rogue Wave, Passion Pit, Bibio, Fatboy Slim, Jamiroquai and more. Here’s the synopsis; you can check out the full clip below.
Inspired by his own high school reunion, Jamie Linden’s TEN YEAR is a generational ensemble dramedy that focuses on a group of friends as they return home on the night of their high school reunion leading them all to ponder what their own lives have become and perhaps what might have been. The film’s ensemble includes: Lynn Collins, Rosario Dawson, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Brian Geraghty, Ari Graynor, Oscar Isaac, Ron Livingston, Justin Long, Anthony Mackie, Kate Mara, Max Minghella, Aubrey Plaza, Scott Porter, Chris Pratt, Channing Tatum, and Aaron Yoo.
