Can sex simply be a meaningless transaction between two willing participants, simply for pleasure? Or does that kind of lifestyle have an emotional toll, one that won’t be felt until long after? Do such encounters merely mask deeper problems at the core of each person? Those are the questions at the heart of François Ozon‘s “Young & Beautiful.”
Led by Marine Vacth, the story follows 17 year-old Isabelle, who starts working as escort, keeping her sideline gig hidden from her friends and family. It’s a coming-of-age and sexuality tale, and one that doesn’t shy away from the dangers and awkwardness of sex-for-hire, highlighted here in his exclusive clip when Isabelle meets a client who is much, much older than she was led to believe. The look on her face says it all as they tentatively negotiate sleeping together.
