The Foreign Language Film race at the Oscars always has a handful of obvious frontrunners, but the category always has the chance to surprise, because many of the films in contention are first seen by voters not at glitzy red carpet screenings, but on screeners at home. And it’s where films like "Sand Dollars" can perhaps resonate best. That’s what the Dominican Republic is hoping, as they have submitted Israel Cárdenas and Laura Amelia Guzmán‘s picture for the Oscars this year and today we have an exclusive clip.
Starring Geraldine Chaplin and Yanet Mojica, the intimate story follows the romance the blooms between Anne, a well-off, older European woman, and Noeli, a younger Dominican struggling to get by. For Noeli, the relationship is one of convenience, but when the date grows closer for Anne to leave, she discovers that her feelings have become more intense. And this scene nicely illustrates the spark and secrets the two share.
