In any creative pursuit, the process of making art usually results in elements that are discarded along the way. Albums have demos and songs that don’t make the final cut, movies have deleted scenes, and photography has images that never see the light of day. However, in acclaimed filmmaker Errol Morris‘ “The B-Side,” he shines a light on photographs that might not otherwise be seen and highlights the woman who made them.
“The B-Side” tells the story of portrait photographer Elsa Dorfman, who for over three decades has created memorable work with the Polaroid Land 20×24 camera, snapping everybody from families, Beat poets, rock stars, and Harvard notables in her Cambridge, Massachusetts studio. As pictures begin to fade and her retirement looms, Dorfman gives Errol Morris an inside tour of her backyard archive. And this exclusive clip, Dorfman shows off the pictures that were rejected by her clients.
