The upcoming wedding dramedy, “Ceremony” starring Uma Thurman, Lee Pace (“Pushing Daisies”), Michael Angarano, Reece Thompson and Jake M. Johnson (“Paper Heart”) will boast a score by Fruitbats singer/songwriter and occasional Shins member Eric D. Johnson.
The film — full synopsis here — will evidently boast many musical riches, as sources close to the project tell us that legendary Beach Boys arranger/collaborator Van Dyke Parks has written additional music for the film as well. Parks is also known for co-composing the score to Robert Atlman’s “Popeye” with Harry Nilsson.
Additionally, Parks put together the arrangement for Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend’s cover of Paul Simon’s “Papa Hobo,” which was made exclusively for the film. The soundtrack will also feature cuts by Ringo Starr, Pete Townshend, Kate Bush, The Animals and more. Not bad for your first feature film and oh yeah, these are two new images from the project as well.
The film is the directorial debut of Max Winkler (son of Henry Winkler) who co-wrote the still-unproduced comedy “The Adventurer’s Handbook” with Jonah Hill and screenwriter Matt Spicer. Spicer is a producer of “Ceremony” and Winkler wrote the screenplay on his own. Winkler also is known (at least by us) as the guy who produced and directed episodes of the excellent web series “Clark and Michael” that starred Clark Duke and Michael Cera which we adored (if you’ve never seen, go run now). He also helmed an episode of David Wain’s funny web series “Wainy Days.” Winkler and Spicer also have a project called, “The Ornate Anatomy of Living Things” that Jason Reitman is producing and has set up at Fox Searchlight (Reitman is also an executive producer of “Ceremony”). The picture will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 13 and also screens on the 15 and 19.
