Got a Tip?

Exclusive: ‘Bellflower’ Team Launch Crowdfunding Campaign For Their Next Movie ‘Chuck Hank And The San Diego Twins’

nullWhile the Sundance Film Festival has been criticized as being more star-driven in recent years, it's easy to forget that for true blue indie films, recognition and reaction from Park City can make a career (or two). And writer/director Evan Glodell is certainly testament to that as he arrived at the fest in 2011 with his distinctly homemade, undeniably unique and apocalyptic "Bellflower." The movie created a stir that followed it to festivals around the world including stops at SXSW, Fantastia, Sitges, Leeds and many more. Oscilloscope Laboratories picked up and released the movie to solid critical praise, undoubtedly opening many doors for Glodell and the team behind the movie. But for their next effort, they are once again keeping things close to home.

Coatwolf Productions, the team behind "Bellflower," today officially launched the kick-off crowdfunding campaign for their forthcoming release, "Chuck Hank and The San Diego Twins." Written and directed by the multi-talented Jonathan Keevil (who scored, produced and edited), the film once again pairs up Tyler Dawson and Evan Glodell (who is also producing) in front of the camera for another gritty, funny picture with action and stunts to spare. Here's the official synopsis:

A turf war has been raging in Oldtown for generations. On one side, The Syndicate – an evil gang of crank-head misfits, who has been set on muscling the San Diego family out of the parcel of land they own in the center of town. On the other side, the San Diego family: Tony and Johnny – twin brothers, and their sister Salsa are the last of a bloodline that stretches back for generations. Their mother, father and brothers were all brutally murdered in a violent clash with The Syndicate years earlier. With their neighborhood becoming increasingly fearful, The Syndicate puts into action another evil advance on their family’s fading legacy by kidnapping Salsa – all hell breaks loose. The twins and their best friend Chuck Hank must decide whether to hand over the deed to their families land in order to save their sister or fight, the final fight!

Promisingly teasing a surrealist action/drama influenced heavily by ‘80s action films and side-scrolling fighting games (awesome), 'Chunk Hank' is currently in pre-production and looking for your support thanks to Indiegogo on their official website.

Depending on how much you're able to give, supporters will receive everything from original artwork, premiere tickets, walk-on roles and much more. But The Playlist readers can get an exclusive extra for their support. The first 12 readers who donate $44 in the contribute now section ($44 is the special code) will receive a signed copy of the Bellflower LP in addition to a digital download of the film and access to the Compatriot's Lounge on Tumblr to receive exclusive updates on the team's progress.  Send an email to [email protected] confirming your contribution and letting us know which members of the Coatwolf team you want to have sign your LP.  Update: These have all been claimed.

And if you need one more reason why you might want to lend "Chuck Hank And The San Diego Twins" some dollars to help get it made, director Jonathan Keevil sums it up thusly: “We want to create a visually rich world that honors, but doesn't exploit, a time when a street fight necessitated brass knuckles, chains, cut-off jean jackets, and HUGE Mohawks.” Check out the excellent campaign video below.

  1. I wonder what pre-existing camera system they'll gut and rehouse in "vintage/funky/dumpster-dived found" materials then try to pass off as "totally made from scratch. Bro"?

    Fuck these guys.

  2. I would consider it (no I wouldn't but for this comments sake) if it was a guarantee that the director wouldn't act again in his life. He was fucking awful on Bellflower
