We may be headed to the tail end of the first month of 2014, but we’re still feeling the heat coming from “Blue Is Tthe Warmest Color.” The sensation of the Cannes Film Festival—where the director and stars shared the Palme d’Or—and one of the most talked about movies of 2013, the three-hour love story is as powerful as it is explicit, with director Abdellatif Kechiche mining the raw emotions of first love and heartbreak with undeniable authenticity and intensity. But if you the movie didn’t make it near you, now’s your chance to catch up.
This weekend, “Blue Is the Warmest Color” will arrive on VOD, but to get you prepared, here’s a nice primer. We’ve got an exclusive five-minute featurette in which Abdellatif Kechiche shares his experiences in making the film. He details the difference in approach between his two leads Adèle Exarchapoulous and Léa Seydoux, using closeups, and being ready to embrace the unexpected. Come on guys, he's not out to ruin her. Please. Pay attention, he is simply talking about their different methods. He even complemented her 'intellectual' approach to acting, meaning she really needs to understand her character in order to play it. Adele's so-called freedom comes from the fact that she has a very open, very different personality to Lea's. I don;t believe he is out to get anyone. They're both to blame for the circus they both created with immature comments about the process. The close ups in this movie are utterly necessary to the story line (in which Adele happens to be the object of everyone's desire, not just Emma's). I think this movie is brilliant, and needs to be watched as a clean slate, without paying attention to all the gossip around it. I recommend you all watch more of his work, his method is very meticulous and detail oriented, and it pays off. Both girls did a phenomenal job. If we should be mad at something, is at the fact that Hollywood failed to recognize these two great actresses for both major awards (Golden Globes/Oscars).
Is it true Abdel jacks off to Adele footage? That's why he filmed her bare behind so many times, what a perv-he has a daughter her age. His obsession over this barely out of teens actress is worrying. No wonder French actors are vary of him.
Most people checked out his movie because it had Lea in it, a star in France, he should be on his hands and knees thanking her for even considering being in his movie considering he asked her personally.
I'm beyond grossed out by this man, what a fragile ego. To talk so much trash about a wonderful actress, he should be ashamed.
So now he's saying Lea Seydoux is the reason why the shoot went from 2 months to 6 months? Because she couldn't "get into character"⦠Wow, this guy is butthurt. We get it, you don't like her. Move on, bro.
Both actresses have said it took so long to shoot because he would stand around and do nothing – often times they would show up on set and he would say that he didn't feel like shooting that day. Certainly Lea is not to blame for that. He really is out to ruin her, I guess…
