If you think you know the story of "The Hobbit," guess again. While Peter Jackson is bringing the tale to the big screen via a massive two-part, 3D epic, he's also tinkered with the source material, not only creating a bridge to "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy of films but also conjuring up brand new characters to populate the world. Sacrilege? Perhaps only to the most die hard of dorks. While there has been a ton of press about this movie already, its secrets are still under wraps.
All we know thus far about Evangeline Lilly's role in "The Hobbit" is that she plays Tauriel, a woodland Elf and daughter of Mirkwood. Well, speaking to EW, she revealed a bit more about her character, and the role might be bigger than we previously thought. "…she is a warrior. She’s actually the head of the Elven guard. She’s the big shot in the army. So she knows how to wield any weapon, but the primary weapons that she uses are a bow and arrow and two daggers. And she’s lethal and deadly. You definitely wouldn’t want to be caught in a dark alley next to Tauriel," Lilly said.
But for fans of the "Lost" beauty, you'll be waiting until 2013 to see the actress in her full Elven gear, as her role really comes to life in the second movie. "She’s not in the first film very much. She comes into the first film near the end, and has a very small part to play. Her role in the second film is much more involved," she explained. "Although, I have to say, when I first read the scripts and took the job, she had a lot less going on in the second film. I think the role is becoming a bit more demanding than I had expected it to be. There’s a lot more for me to do now, which is a lot of fun, but it’s a little more pressure."
So, does that mean she'll be kicking ass in a big way The Battle Of Five Armies? (That's essentially the battle between the elves and the inhabitants of the Misty Mountains). Lilly is not sure, saying the sequence hasn't shot yet, but she's still got five more months of filming to go, so the short answer is probably "yes."
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" lands in theaters on December 14th with "The Hobbit: There And Back Again" slated for December 13, 2013.

I don't know if she's lead material but she certainly deserves bigger roles and more film work. I really enjoyed what she brought to Real Steel especially her zeal during the fights.
The way I look at movie adaptations of books is that they are completely different beings. That is really the way you have to look at it, because no movie can follow the book 100% or fit in everything everyone thinks is important. I love the LOTR trilogy, so I am sure these 2 films will be great.
"the most die hard of dorks"? really? every movie peter jackson has made since "the two towers" has been more bloated and self indulgent than the last. forgive me for being skeptical about him adding unnecessary bullshit to one of the greatest adventure stories ever told.
