While Ennio Morricone once vowed to never work with Quentin Tarantino again, criticizing the director’s use of his music in his films, that was in the past. The composer came aboard the director’s “The Hateful Eight” and provided the filmmaker with some new music along with unused work for John Carpenter‘s “The Thing,” creating a concoction that has won a Golden Globe and is up for an Oscar. And the pair are getting along so swimmingly that, according to Morricone, he’ll be working with the director again.

“Tarantino has already told me that there will be a next movie that we are going to make together,” Morricone told Deadline. “I told him that in the future I would like to have much more time. I would like to start working with him even long before in order to have the time to work, to think about the music, and also to exchange more ideas with him about what I am going to score for him. I never ask any director to work with me, but it was Tarantino who told me, ‘OK, there will be a next time.’ ”
Exciting stuff, but the question remains what picture that will actually be. Tarantino spent much of “The Hateful Eight” press tour tossing around ideas for movies he could make before he retires (yep, he’s still sticking to that 10-movies-then-I’m-out-plan, which has an exemption rule for television), so we’ll see what he eventually lands on. But already having Morricone in his corner is a good start.
