Other cast members include Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer, Rory Cochrane, Lucian-River Chauhan, and Aditya Geddada.
The R-rated genre pic was recently screened at the Telluride Film Festival (our review), and Amazon has dropped a new teaser trailer (see below) with “Encounter” set to debut in theaters on December 3 and will subsequently hit Prime Video on December 10.
While the teaser is brief, you can get a sense of the film’s striking visuals and the “Midnight Special” vibes from the footage.
Ahmed is coming off an Oscar nomination for the fantastic drama “Sound of Metal” and can be seen now in Bassam Tariq‘s “Mogul Mowgli,” another drama centered around an ailing musician. Tariq recently confirmed to The Playlist that he’s signed on to direct Marvel‘s “Blade” reboot starring Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali (“Moonlight“).
We’ll keep our fingers crossed that Ahmed ends up find a role in the comic book project after previously taking a major part in Tom Hardy‘s “Venom.”
Joe Barton, who co-wrote “Encounter” with Michael Pearce, is behind the “Gotham PD” series at HBO Max (replacing Terence Winter as showrunner) that is directly connected to Matt Reeves‘ “The Batman,” and takes place before the events of the new DC Comics film. He’s also writing a direct sequel to Reeves’ sci-fi movie “Cloverfield” that led to two retrofitted spinoffs with “10 Cloverfield Lane” and “The Cloverfield Paradox.”
