After spending the better part of a decade toiling in development hell, the New Line comedy “We're The Millers” looks set to finally see production soon, and with Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis starring nonetheless. Now finally securing a start date and a number of high-profile supporting actors including Nick Offerman and Ed Helms, the film has kept the casting train moving swiftly along, and today two more worthy talents have joined on.
The male roles in the film have proven troublesome, with Will Arnett, Steve Buscemi, and Jason Bateman all attached to the Rawson Thurber-directed project at one point or another, but in an easier bit of casting, Emma Roberts and Kathryn Hahn — varying wildly in their comedy experience — are set to star as well. Roberts will play Julia, a disturbed 20-year-old runaway who poses as Sudeikis and Aniston's daughter amidst their plan to ferry 1,400 pounds of marijuana from Mexico to the U.S. Sudeikis plays the low-level drug dealer who forces Aniston into the trip in the first place, while Hahn plays the wife of a DEA agent struggling to take a vacation among all the chaos.
Hahn is no stranger to the comedy world, appearing in “Wanderlust,” “My Idiot Brother,” and “How Do You Know,” small-screen guest stints on "Parks & Recreation," "The Newsroom" and "Girls," in addition to memorable supporting roles in “Anchorman” and “Step Brothers.” Her talent as a comedic presence is a given, but Roberts is more of a question mark in regards to pulling her role off. When the closest the actress — who just wrapped the heist film “Empire State” alongside Dwayne Johnson and Liam Hemsworth — has come to a comedic role is “Scream 4,” that doesn't exactly give the best of hopes. Still, we're optimistic for a pleasant surprise, and for the finished film to be worth the (very long) wait.
