Yes, we knew that Disney was putting their live action paint on “Mary Poppins,” but other than Emily Blunt starring, details were scarce. Well, the mouse house has lifted the curtain today and what they’re cooking up, and it’s gonna be big.
Emily Blunt and “Hamilton” star Lin-Manuel Miranda will lead “Mary Poppins Returns.” Rob Marshall, who directed Blunt in “Into The Woods,” returns behind the camera for this tale that will see the actress playing the title character, with Miranda in a new role as a street lamplighter named Jack. The story will take place in Depression-era London (when P.L. Travers‘ books were originally written) and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.
So great ready for more supercalifragilisticexpialidocious adventures when “Mary Poppins Returns” opens on December 25, 2018.
