Director Tate Taylor has mostly kept it light so far with his feature films, helming the crowd-pleasing “The Help” and the James Brown biopic “Get On Up.” But for “The Girl On The Train” he takes a darker turn for what is looking to be one of the fall’s most anticipated thrillers.

Based on the novel by Paula Hawkins and featuring a pretty terrific cast including Emily Blunt, Haley Bennett, Luke Evans, Justin Theroux, Allison Janney, Edgar Ramirez, and more, the movie centers on a young woman who keeps an eye on a couple of young people during her daily commute, only to become witness to something unspeakable. Here’s the official synopsis:
In the thriller, Rachel (Blunt), who is devastated by her recent divorce, spends her daily commute fantasizing about the seemingly perfect couple who live in a house that her train passes every day, until one morning she sees something shocking happen there and becomes entangled in the mystery that unfolds.
There are only a few brief moments of new footage in here, but it’s worth another spin. “The Girl On The Train” opens on October 7th.
Uhm guys, the book wasn’t written by Gillian Flynn.
It’s interesting how this has turned out to be a really difficult concept to market. It’s quite a confusing set-up when you try to explain all of it in a trailer. It doesn’t really have a strong simple hook like Gone Girl, which may become a real problem for it. You’d have thought they’d have tried to find a more simple and compelling way into the idea.
