Got a Tip?

Emile Hirsch Joins Penelope Cruz In Sergio Castellitto’s ‘Twice Born’

Emile Hirsch kinda needs a comeback pic, doesn’t he? After making a big splash in 2007 with Sean Penn‘s “Into The Wild,” the failed experiment that was the Wachowski‘s “Speed Racer” left the actor trying to make his mark with small roles in films like “Taking Woodstock” and “Milk,” and he’s always turned in good performance, even if he hasn’t yet become the A-lister he threatened to be.

Things might be turning around shortly, with a few decent roles for Hirsch coming up in “The Darkest Hour,” “Killer Joe,” “The Motel Life” and Oliver Stone‘s upcoming “Savages.” Furthermore, the actor has now scored a role opposite Penelope Cruz in her reunion with Sergio Castellitto in his adaptation of Margaret Mazzantini‘s “Venuto Al Mondo.”

Retitled “Twice Born,” the adaptation follows the story of a woman who returns to Sarajevo with her son in tow and revisits the tumultuous past she shared with his late father. Cruz will obviously play the lead role though no word on who Hirsch will play — we can’t imagine it’s the same male lead (a Bosnian poet) that Cruz’s partner Javier Bardem was being courted for; or the role Benicio Del Toro was also being chased for that matter.

Cruz has previously noted that her passion for the project stems from the book’s ability to help audiences “understand war” and the “fear and desperation” it produces. Shooting is to begin in September with locations such as Rome, Sarajevo, Belgrade and Croatia once mentioned. [ScreenDaily]

  1. I like Emile Hirsch but I can\’t imagine that he would play a role that either Bardem or Del Toro would play. We shall see. But I loved Don\’t Move so I can\’t wait for this one.
