Got a Tip?

Elizabeth Banks To Star Opposite Cate Blanchett In New FX Limited Series ‘Mrs. America’

Cate Blanchett is making her way to TV in the new FX series “Mrs. America.” And when you have an actress on the level of that attached to a project, you better believe that some big names will follow.

According to Variety, Blanchett will co-star in “Mrs. America” alongside none other than Elizabeth Banks. For those that haven’t been following the development of the series, FX’s latest drama follows the incredible true story of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), which caused massive amounts of controversy during its ratification. Blanchett is set to play Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative woman that was opposed to the ERA, while Banks will play pro-choice Republican, Jill Ruckelshaus, that fights Schlafly and attempts to keep her party from being dominated by the Religious Right.

This is far from the first time that Banks has appeared in a TV series. Recently, she’s starred in the “Wet Hot American Summer” series that was released on Netflix. She’s also appeared in “Modern Family” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Currently, she’s putting the finishing touches on her newest directorial venture, the November-premiering “Charlie’s Angels” reboot film.

Joining Blanchett and Banks in the cast are Uzo Aduba, Rose Byrne, Kayli Carter, Ari Graynor, Melanie Lynskey, James Marsden, Margo Martindale, Sarah Paulson, John Slattery, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Tracey Ullman.

The first two episodes of “Mrs. America” will be directed by the “Captain Marvel” helmers, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, marking their first work since releasing the billion-dollar blockbuster. Obviously, they’re sticking with female-led projects, but this time without the cosmic battle scenes.

There’s no release date set for “Mrs. America,” but it’s expected to arrive on FX sometime in 2020.
