You’ll remember that back in August we told you about Munchausen By Proxy, a fictional band starring Zooey Deschanel and the ladies from San Franciscan electropunk trio, Von Iva that were writing songs for the upcoming Jim Carrey comedy, “Yes Man.”
Munchausen are a band which Carrey’s character is incessantly invited to see by an over-eager street promoter. Carrey’s character meets Deschanel’s by finally agreeing to see her band and then is quickly besotted at first sight (honestly, the film looks terrible with Carrey at his worst doing his rubberface shtick, no thanks). Four Munchausen songs are featured in the film and the soundtrack and we’ve got some shots of the band from the film here.
Also of note is E, of the mostly one-man-band, The Eels who composed the score of the film in collaboration with Lyle Workman (composer for “Superbad” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”). The Eels wrote one new song for the film (“Man Up”) included on the soundtrack and eight old tunes also grace the disc and movie.
The soundtrack is scheduled for December 9 via Lakeshore records and we’re obviously not that keen on “Yes Man,” the film but we’re certainly interested in the soundtrack. The Eels create some really nice bittersweet pop and Zooey Deschanel’s work with Matt Ward in She & Him was totally winning, so we’re definitely up for hearing more tunes co-penned by her. Oh I wish I was an Apple laptop carrying,latte-in-the-morning,VW-driving,i-pod listening clown who (sight unseen),could judge a movie,such as “Yes Man”.But sadly i’m just a regular shmuck,who rather quite enjoyed the flick,sure,it’s not oscar worthy…but hey ,it’s no brokeback mountain…just a light farce with great presence by Zooey Deschael,which makes it all-together a fun couple of hours!
Granted it has a cheesy predictable ending,but hey! Predictable,pretentious,absurd,is right up Mr.Clown’s alley(I’m talkin’ to YOU ‘sight-unseen reviewer’).
I never saw it, no. Maybe it’s cute. I’d give it a chance on cable, but then again, i just purposely dropped cable. I’m a big fan of Zooey and her music and i expected it to be great, but i thought the music here was really sub par.
Despite the all around bashing Yes Man got, I thought it was actually pretty funny.
Maybe it's just because I had low expectations from all the people who dismissed it because 'Jim Carrey is still doing the same old jokes'. Still, it made me laugh out loud more than once.
Loved Munchausen, I kinda wish they were a real band.
the munchausen songs I thought were quite well done, especially considering they aren't a real band, and she's primarily an actress. it shocked me a little and I've just been googling the band name because I was a little uncertain if it was a hoax or not! and was pleasantly surprised by the movie, it's been a while since I've actually enjoyed cheese on film 🙂
As someone who actually read the book I thought this film was terrible! it took nothing from what was an unasuming funny British tale and made it into a cringe worthy, predictable, Americanised farce. Don't bother to rent this unless you wish to inflict pain upon yourself! I would however say that the music was a saving point.
