Personally, I have zero interest or nostalgia for “Point Break” or the remake, but the remake just got a serious upgrade. In the lead role was Gerard Butler, until he dropped out recently and but he’s now been replaced with Edgar Ramirez. The Venezuelan actor is far from a well-known actor, but he killed it as Carlos The Jackal in Oliver Assayas‘ three-part “Carlos” epic in 2010 and was strong in “The Bourne Ultimatum,” Steven Soderbergh‘s “Che” and “Zero Dark Thirty.” He hasn’t landed that break-out role yet, but “Point Break” could be the mainstream one. And we’ve barely scratched the surface of his talents so don’t be surprised if more filmmakers tap him after this. Luke Bracey and Ray Winstone co-star so far and additionally, the movie has been scheduled for an August 7, 2015 release according to Box-Office Mojo. The movie will go up against Sony‘s “Goosebumps,” and Fox‘s “Assassin’s Creed” that weekend and will face off against the next ‘Bourne‘ movie the weekend after.
Ben and Alex Brewer will direct Nicolas Cage and quickly-rising “Boardwalk Empire” star Jack Huston in “The Trust.” Ben Brewer and Alex Hirsch penned the script and it focus on two bad cops “who discover a strangely hidden and guarded safe filled with mysterious contents,” according to today’s press release announcement. Cage was excellent and restrained in David Gordon Green’s “Joe,” but sadly no one noticed it earlier this year—not even the intended arthouse audiences. This presumably could be good, so if you hear good things, go see it before Cage changes his mind and goes back to starring in whatever dreck his agent throws in front of him.
Emma Thompson and German actor Daniel Bruhl (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Rush,” the upcoming “A Most Wanted Man”) have joined the cast of “Alone In Berlin.” Directed by Vincent Perez, the based-on-a-true-story drama centers on an ordinary couple living in a shabby apartment block in Berlin trying, like everyone else, to stay out of trouble under fearful Nazi rule. Remember when the Internet freaked out over indie actress Greta Gerwig going mainstream when she would write, produce and star in CBS’ “How I Met Your Dad,” the spin-off show from the recently finished “How I Met Your Mother”? Well, rest easy haters and sorry Greta Gerwig, because the pilot has been shot, CBS didn’t love it and now the whole show has been killed. [Vulture]
You can never get enough James Franco, so there’s a documentary about James Franco in the works. No, it’s not actually going to be directed by James Franco, but instead first-time filmmaker Lisa Vangellow. Evidently she has great access to Franco, his family and friends and the project delves into actor’s professional life and notoriously secretive social circle. [The Wrap]
Edgar Ramirez is GAY? Is this rumor true. Apparently half of Caracas, knows he had a long love affair with Jonathan Blum, the head of Cisneros Media. Does anyone know if this is true? And what is he like, as a person? Thank you.
I don't remember so many old guys in Point Break. Is armchair weekend worries an extreme sport now? Are they going to be geriatric bank robbers? Robbing to supplement their social security income? Can't wait for the chase scene where they getaway on their electric scooters! Holy pacemaker, Grandpa! Hold onto your toupee!
Ramirez has necessary presence. Can't wait for his boxing movie with De Niro.
Huge fan of Point Break, and was annoyed at the idea of a remake until Edgar took over the role of Bhodi. Could be good..
