Got a Tip?

Eddie Murphy Coming To Netflix With “Tour De Force,” “Raw” New Movie

A Thousand Words Eddie MurphySo is Netflix becoming the home of comic actors that no one thinks are funny anymore? The streaming leviathan has struck a four picture deal with Adam Sandler, and now producer Brian Grazer, who is behind "Arrested Development" on the service, reveals he’s corralled another once great funnyman to the service.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Grazer revealed he’s landed Eddie Murphy for a feature film on Netflix. “I’m gonna do a tour de force movie that’s cinema verite with Eddie Murphy being as raw as he can be,” he said without spilling any further details. Nonetheless, this is news to be taken with both optimism and skepticism.

On one hand, anything that suggests a return to form for Murphy is a sign of hope, particularly from a man whose last theatrical effort was 2012’s "A Thousand Words," which you probably don’t even remember (it was not well received, to say the least). However, Murphy has a habit of promising lots of projects ("Beverly Hills Cop 4" and "Triplets" are among the most recent) that take years to pan out, if they ever do. On the other, he has shown a willingness recently to do the unexpected, taking a lead role in the small indie drama "Henry Joseph Church," so anything could be up his sleeve.

At any rate, I’m curious to find out what this project is, and hopefully there’ll some word soon. After all, it can’t be as awful sound as "Ridiculous Six," can it? [via Splitsider]
