It looks like this Christmas we might all get the present we’ve been waiting on for nearly a decade (and not just that Wii). “Christmas On Mars,” the long, long-awaited movie by Oklahoma’s resident weirdists The Flaming Lips is finally coming to select theaters, with a DVD and accompanying soundtrack release date of November 11th. If Guns N’ Roses get their act together, this may be the best Christmas ever!
Anyway, Lips leader Wayne Coyne has discussed a bevy of release options, from the screenings that took place early last month on New York’s Lower East Side to a plan to have the film play as the background to a typically wacky Flaming Lips concert. The movie itself looks like standard Lips fare, with equal parts surrealism and heart. In order to get you in that Christmas (On Mars) spirit, find below a song from the soundtrack. The track is admirably weird, with an almost My Bloody Valentine-ish shoegaze vibe. Presumably, it accompanies an equally odd moment in the film.
