Dwayne Johnson doesn’t do sensitive dramas, or complex romantic comedies, and even when he’s rolling in "Ballers," it’s his charisma that leads the way. And that’s totally, because if there is any actor who was built with both the figure and personality to be a tentpole star, it’s Dwayne Johnson. And indeed, the actor is a having a moment where he can’t seem to make a wrong move. So, naturally, another blockbuster is being put on his plate.
THR reports that Disney is teaming with The Rock for their theme park ride turned movie, "Jungle Cruise." John Requa and Glenn Ficarra ("Focus," "Crazy Stupid Love") will write the script, though they are not attached to direct at the moment. The project has been in development for years, and apparently this iteration will vibe off the stone cold classic "The African Queen," but made for families and to sell buckets of greasy popcorn, theme park tickets, and toys. So, it won’t be like "The African Queen" at all, though it’s probably fun for Disney to toss that out there.
Anyway, we’ll see where this goes. Johnson’s schedule is busy and Disney hasn’t been in any rush yet, so they’re probably waiting for the right script and moment to strike. That said, with The Rock as hot as he is, the moment may be now.
