Musician and composer Dustin O'Halloran has been moving slowly into film scoring in the past few years after popping up on the soundtrack to Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette" in 2006. Since then, O'Halloran has scored films like 2009's "An American Affair" and last year's "Like Crazy," which became one of our favorite scores of the year. Therefore, it is our great delight to discover that O'Halloran will score the next film for "Like Crazy" director Drake Doremus as well.
Presently lacking a title, Doremus' next project will again tackle affairs of the heart, in a familiar story about a high school teacher (Guy Pearce), who falls for one of his students and is tempted to cheat on his wife. Not exactly untrafficked territory, but Doremus' "Like Crazy" was also based on a familiar theme (long-distance relationships) and still managed to resonate, with no small thanks due to O'Halloran's music. In fact, it looks like Doremus is looking for a similar experience for his latest film, which was co-written by his "Like Crazy" partner Ben York Jones and will co-star his "Like Crazy" actress Felicity Jones. The Jones casting is terrific news, but the rest of the ensemble are no slouches either, with Amy Ryan, Kyle MacLachlan and Alexandra Whitworth all taking part. No release has been scheduled yet, but with filming completed last year, we presume a fall festival date is on the horizon.
For those clamoring for more of O'Halloran's work, the upcoming British drama "Now Is Good" will feature his score, and there's also his most recent non-film-related musical project, A Winged Victory for the Sullen, which continues his exploration of haunting, heart-breaking melodies and pairs him with Stars of the Lid's Adam Wiltzie.
