Everyone needs to take a breath about the “Ghosbusters” project news so much so that writer Drew Pearce has taken to Twitter to clarify his own comments. Pearce began with confirming that he’s written something that is eyeing Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt to star, even though Chris Pratt has denied all this and Channing Tatum has recently suggested his version of “Ghostbusters” is pretty much dead.
“That’s definitely the cast we’ve been thinking about as we approach the project,” Pearce told MTV (who wrote a super misleading headline). “Whether that happens or not is very much above my pay grade. It’s just my job to give them something exciting that maybe they’ll do.”
Despite Pearce’s caveats this has turned into "a ‘Ghosbusters’ movie with Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt will happen." Pearce has finished writing what he had to write and Tatum still feels the same way he did a few months back (in short: too many cooks and its become overkill). Also, apparently, what Pearce has written is not a finished script and the idea he’s penned is not a “male” Ghostbusters team. After the news cycle hit, Pearce quickly clarified on Twitter.

Pearce is right. He’s handed in the assignment he was paid to do: a larger “Ghostbusters” bible that Ivan Reitman, Dan Aykroyd and the members of The Ghosbusters Corps. may or may not love. What’s clear about “Ghostbusters” and Tatum’s “too many cooks” comments from months back is that too many people were developing “Ghostbusters” projects at the same time without much communication. Even Paul Feig who is directing the 2016 “Ghostbusters” film admitted he didn’t really know much about the Tatum version that was being developed by The Russo Brothers.
The problem has been up until now is that Paul Feig’s “Ghostbusters” basically starts in a new universe and essentially forgoes the original series. And then Aykroyd has been trying to make a proper sequel and then what are Tatum and co. left with continuity wise? That’s likely the crux of the problem. No one knows where the universe actually stands. Pearce addressed that in terms of the bible he’s written.
“My personal inclination is to try and make everything occur in the same ’Ghostbusters’ universe, because I feel, as a fan, that’s what I would want,” he said. “Standing here in New York, you just wanna tie it all together. Whether that happens or not we’ll see, but I’ve certainly given them the tools to do that, I hope.”
Makes sense. Especially because you don’t want another film in the following year or two that magically doesn’t have anything to do with the previous “Ghostbusters” film you just saw. What does it all mean? I’ll bet you a million dollars nothing is solidified until after Paul Feig’s summer 2016 “Ghostbusters” movie comes out and all creative parties can see what options are left for the future. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s little movement until then.
