Emmy season is upon us and, once again, the Drama Series category looks like it will be as competitive as usual. Even with eight nomination slots, not all the players are confirmed. Obviously, “The Crown,” “The Mandalorian” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” are likely locks as they have been nominated for every season they have aired so far. “Pose” and “This Is Us” hope to return to the fold while “Bridgerton” and “Lovecraft Country” look for their first nods. That leaves one slot open and it’s arguably anyone’s game.
Could Amazon’s massive hit “The Boys” finally crack through or does their new horror/thriller player “Them” surprise? Does Apple TV+ have a player with “The Mosquito Coast“? Can Starz make waves with the critically acclaimed “P Valley?” Or does HBO have a safe contender in “Perry Mason” simply waiting in the wings? Ponder. [Posted April 6].
