“Downfall” director and internet meme creator Oliver Hirschbiegel has signed on to direct “The Dark Side Of The Moon” and no, it has nothing to do with the seminal Pink Floyd album, but is instead an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Swiss author Martin Suter. If you haven’t heard of it don’t worry, it appears not to have been translated into English (yet).
The film follows a “successful attorney whose life is turned upside down after a mind-opening mushroom trip.” Stay away from drugs kids. But seriously, it does sound potentially interesting but with David Marconi (“Live Free Or Die Hard,” “Enemy Of The State”) penning the screenplay, our hopes for the project are being kept quite low.
The film will shoot next spring in Switzerland, Germany and France with casting yet to be announced. Hirshbiegel has yet to match the success of “Downfall.” His Hollywood debut was the mangled production of “The Invasion,” but we do encourage you to seek out last year’s slept on “Five Minutes Of Heaven.” It really deserved a bit more attention than it got.
