The cast list for “John Wick 4” is hotting up, as Keanu Reeves is far from the only thing to look forward to now in Chad Stahelski’s forthcoming sequel film. It’s just been confirmed that actor-filmmaker Donnie Yen will be joining the movie, starring as one of Wick’s old friends.
There’s no word yet on a character name or more extensive description of Yen’s character, but per Deadline, he’s said to share the same history and many of the same enemies as Wick.
Yen is best known for his experience in contemporary screen combat, which he has harnessed in movies all over the world, including “xXx: Return of Xander Cage,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and the “IP Man” franchise.
“We are very lucky to have Donnie Yen join the franchise,” said Stahelski in a statement sharing the good news. “I am looking forward to working with him in this exciting new role.”
Iwanyk, producing the film alongside Erica Lee and Stahelski, added: “Donnie Yen will bring a vibrant and powerful energy to the franchise. We were determined to bring him on board to ‘John Wick 4’ and are thrilled for the opportunity to have such a major talent to collaborate with Keanu.”
Last week, it was also confirmed that pop megastar Rina Sawayama would be joining the film in her big-screen debut. There is no word on her specific role yet – but if her music is anything to go by, the stakes of this franchise are only getting higher.
