‘Dirty John’ Trailer: Eric Bana & Connie Britton Bring The Popular Crime Podcast To Life

It has been an unusually stimulating past few weeks for podcast fans. In late August, news broke that the enormously popular British comedy podcast “My Dad Wrote a Porno” is to be adapted for television. Unfortunately, details on this newly anticipated project are being kept under wraps. In the meantime, luckily, there’s another adaptation on the horizon – and we now have our first trailer for it: “Dirty John

The television adaptation for “Dirty John” –  the true-crime podcast from Pulitzer Prize-nominated L.A. Times journalist Christopher Goffard – is now officially in sight, as the Bravo Network released the trailer yesterday. This is, of course, awfully exciting for the 26 million fans who have collectively downloaded Goffard’s podcast. One of these fans is “Desperate Housewives,” Hulu’s “Chance,” and “Bates Motel” showrunner Alexandra Cunningham, who is subsequently now responsible for Bravo’s live-action rendition.

“Dirty John” centers on the titular John (played by Eric Bana) and the investigation surrounding his mysterious relationship with businesswoman Debra (played by Connie Britton). Textured with investigative journalism, the series seems to promise an exploration of abuse, toxic romance, and psychology.

In a statement to EW, Cunningham compared her work on “Bates Motel” to what she hopes to accomplish with her new true-crime adaptation – and how she plans to achieve it through the psyche of her leading star: “[‘Bates Motel’] was a great example of taking a story that everyone’s familiar with and really going into the psychology of it… I’d love to think that I’m doing even a fraction of what they did… Connie is the actress that you think of when you want to tap into the headspace of intelligent women on screen.”

From executive producers Christopher Argentieri, Christopher G. Cowen, Alexandra Cunningham, Mark Herzog, Charles Roven, and Richard Suckle, “Dirty John” is slated to premiere in the fall on the Bravo Network. Check out the first trailer below.
