Celebrities who find it necessary to dispense with surnames and decide to be mono-monikered entities are generally regarded – and with good reason – as pretentious blowhard twats that deserve a good flogging (see Tarsem, Kreskin, Chikezie, Siegfried and Roy – McLovin’ probably being the only exception to the role in recent years.)
Hyper-caffeinated, A.D.D. film director McG (née Joseph McGinty Nichol) is apparently well aware of this. The shit has just recently hit the fan on his Terminator 4 film (“Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins”); the plot and surprise ending has leaked and it appears these spoilers are not just baseless rumors and very true plot points.
This is a big deal. Warner Bros. took a huge kick to the balls this summer with the abject failure of “Speed Racer,” so T4 is supposed to be next year’s big early summer/late spring tentpole, right? Well, McG has taken to the film’s blog to set the record straight (sort of; btw he says, “there are only three people who know the ending,” Paging Kreskin!), but he also spends a big chunk of the blog post to play the apologist and ask that people don’t throw him under the bus for the d-bag-sounding name he was basically born with.
“I realize my name is ridiculous. I was born Joseph McGinty Nichol. McG is short for McGinty. I have been called this since the day I was born to create separation from my Uncle Joe and Grandpa Joe. I realize it sounds like some Hollywood nickname, hip-hop choice. But the truth is, this is simply my name – for every day of elementary school, every zit-filled day of high school. I have been taking shit for it ever since. I get it, I would think it’s lame too. But it’s just a name, and to change it now would seem fraudulent.”
In other Terminator-related news, Charlotte Gainsbourg, who was scheduled to play the role that Claire Danes held in T3 (you know, the one you never bothered to see) will now be played by Bryce Dallas Howard, because of a scheduling conflict. Oh as for the T4 spoilers, well we haven’t read them cause we really don’t care, but uhh, lead Christian Bale is signed on for two more movies (T5 and T6, essentially) so how crazy could the ending be? We know they’ll have to be made with a least two sequels in mind (if they perform that is).
In regards to the Terminator 4, I would like to suggest that Clare Danes would be very appropriate choice for the role of Kate Connor.
I think it is sad that this has changed. Why has it?
