Last year, Amazon Prime Video had Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts headlining her first major TV work with “Homecoming.” The psychological drama might not have been the awards beast that everyone was anticipating, but the series was well-received and apparently a hit for the streaming service. However, when the series was renewed for Season 2, it was clear that major changes were coming, as both Roberts and the director of the entire first season, Sam Esmail, were departing.
Now, according to Deadline, Season 2 of the series is coming into focus a bit more as we have learned who is going to helm the new episodes, as well as which actors from the first season will be back.

The report says that director Kyle Patrick Alvarez has been signed to direct the entire Season 2 of “Homecoming,” which is supposed to be a bit of a departure from the story seen in the first outing. Alvarez is probably best known for his work on the underrated “The Stanford Prison Experiment.” However, more recently, he’s been working on TV series like “13 Reasons Why” and “Counterpart.”
Joining Alvarez in Season 2 are returning cast members Stephan James and Hong Chau. James earned a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in Season 1 and is probably best known for his incredible role in last year’s “If Beale Street Could Talk.” Chau is also a Golden Globe nominee, but for her work in the 2017 film “Downsizing.” Both of them join Janelle Monáe in the cast for Season 2 of “Homecoming,” which is expected to move away from the story of the popular podcast that inspired the series and introduce new characters.
There’s no word on when “Homecoming” might return, but even with Roberts and Esmail, it would appear that the Amazon series is still going to be must-see TV.
