‘Die, My Love’: Lynne Ramsay To Direct Jennifer Lawrence In A New Drama Produced By Martin Scorsese

Jennifer Lawrence is back. After stepping away for a while and seemingly taking a breath as her career went supernova, the actress has now returned with a renewed sense of purpose and intention. She’s ready to take risks with her film work and not saddle herself with below-par superhero films and franchise fare. So, now she’s trying to partner up with auteur voices such as Lynne Ramsay, and we couldn’t be more excited.

In a New York Times interview with Jennifer Lawrence, the actress teased a number of projects she has coming up. Those include a comedy film, “No Hard Feelings,” as well as some films in development like a biopic about talent agent Sue Mengers and an adaptation of Ariana Harwicz’s novel “Die, My Love.” The latter of which has some exciting folks attached behind the scenes.

Last month, while promoting her new Apple TV+ film, “Causeway,” Lawrence talked about being “obsessed” with filmmaker Lynne Ramsay and said that they might be working on something together in the future. Apparently, the something they’re doing is an adaptation of “Die, My Love.” And not only is Ramsay involved, but it would also appear that Martin Scorsese is on board to produce.

Here’s the synopsis for the novel:

In a forgotten patch of French countryside, a woman is battling her demons: embracing exclusion yet wanting to belong, craving freedom whilst feeling trapped, yearning for family life but wanting to burn the entire house down. Given surprising leeway by her family for her increasingly erratic behaviour, she nevertheless feels ever more stifled and repressed.

“It reads like Sylvia Plath, especially because it’s about a woman suffering from postpartum and cycling into madness. And Martin Scorsese is producing,” teased Lawrence in an outtake from the interview shared by writer Kyle Buchanan.

Ramsay is probably best known for her films, “You Were Never Really Here” and “We Need to Talk About Kevin.” She also worked on films such as “Morvern Collar” and “Ratcatcher.” It has been more than four years since we’ve seen a feature from the director, so the film community anxiously awaits whatever she has coming up.

Obviously, it’s still a bit early to talk about when the film might go into production and eventually be released to the public. However, with Lawrence, Ramsay, and Scorsese attached, it’s definitely a film to keep an eye out for.
