Got a Tip?

Diane Lane, Barry Keoghan, & Imogen Poots Lead Strong Cast For FX’s ‘Y: The Last Man’ Series

The long-in-development FX series “Y: The Last Man” (now, apparently only called “Y”) is finally coming together. In preparation of the beginning of production of the pilot episode, FX has filled out the cast of the new series, based on the comic books by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, according to Deadline.

Diane Lane, Barry Keoghan, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield, and Marin Ireland have all been cast in the new series. For those that aren’t familiar with the source material, “Y” tells the story of Yorick Brown (Keoghan), the last remaining male on Earth after a cataclysmic event kills every male mammal on the planet. From the ashes of a male-dominated civilization comes a new order led by women.

Lane will play Senator Jennifer Brown, mother of Yorick, and political hotshot. Before Lane was announced, reports circulated that Jodie Foster was in the running for the role. Poots will play Yorick’s sister, Hero Brown. She’s a former EMT that completely reinvents herself in the time since the event. Lynch is Agent 355, a Secret Service agent that joins Yorick on his adventures. And Canfield will play Beth, Yorick’s girlfriend and a knife-maker. Clearly, as you can see by the cast list, this is going to be a female-dominated cast, and it appears that FX has done a great job putting together an amazing ensemble.

The series comes from producers/showrunners Michael Green (“American Gods” and “Logan”) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (“Luke Cage”). The pilot will be helmed by “Insecure” and “Master of None” director Melina Matsoukas.

Obviously, depending on the quality of the pilot episode, FX could have another strong series on their hands. The 60-issue comic book series is regarded as some of the best storytelling in the last two decades, and Brian K. Vaughan has proven himself to be one of the best writers in the medium. And if the series gets picked up, there’s plenty of incredible source material to have a fairly lengthy run on TV.
