Got a Tip?

Diane Keaton & Ed Harris To Topline Arie Posin’s ‘The Look of Love’

Studios may be principally interested in marketing noisy, crude pictures to teenagers, but that doesn’t mean that they’re totally ignoring their parents and grandparents. Films like “It’s Complicated” and “Last Chance Harvey” have shown in recent years that there’s a pretty penny to be made in the burgeoning sub-genre of the aging baby-boomer romance. If the genre has a queen, it’s Diane Keaton, and news has come in that the actress is going back to the well one more time.

According to Deadline, Keaton will star alongside Ed Harris in “The Look of Love” a new comedy-drama from writer-director Arie Posin (“The Chumscrubber“). Keaton will play Nikki, a woman who meets a man (Harris) who bears an uncanny resemblance to her late husband. According to the press release, the film “is a love story filled with humor, surprise, and a mood that reflects the mystery of love that surrounds us.”

It’s not the most immediately promising prospect, particularly with the role seeming familiar territory for Keaton, although it’s sort of intriguing to see Harris take on something lighter for a change; we can’t remember the last time he played anything that can’t be described loosely as ‘dour authority figure.’ Posin, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Matthew McDuffie (“A Cool Dry Place“), made his debut a few years back with the interesting, if mostly unsuccessful teen drama “The Chumscrubber,” so it may be different from what we’re expecting.

Julie Lynn (“The Jane Austen Book Club“) and Bonnie Curtis (“Saving Private Ryan“) are producing, and Exclusive Films International have picked up the international sales rights. There’s no news on when filming will get underway, but we imagine a 2012 release is on the cards.

  1. Diane Keaton is one of the best actresses of her generation but she hasn\’t gotten the roles she deserves lately. Why must all the roles for women her age go to Meryl Streep? I hope this role is worthy of her. I\’m looking forward to watching her in a good movie again, and I hope this is it.
