Wasn’t it cute in March and April, when people were sharing those memes about how awful 2020 was already? There were jokes about how aliens would probably land and the apocalypse would begin by the end of the year. Those were, of course, jokes, but unfortunately, the terribleness of 2020 has continued to a depressing point, where most of us are just counting down the days when this might all end. It appears that we’re not alone, as the creator of “Black Mirror” is doing the same and has decided to work on his own takedown of 2020, aptly titled, “Death to 2020.”

While the new teaser for Netflix’s comedy film, “Death to 2020,” doesn’t have any footage from the upcoming special, the clip definitely does plenty to get you excited about the project. Charlie Brooker, of “Black Mirror” fame, has apparently been working on a mockumentary that attempts to add levity to 2020 by including some of the biggest names in comedy to help tear down the year. Hugh Grant already spilled the beans that the project was in the works, but Netflix has confirmed that there are plenty of folks other than Grant in “Death to 2020.”
Joining Hugh Grant in this new “comedy event” are the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Lisa Kudrow, Kumail Nanjiani, Tracey Ullman, Samson Kayo, Leslie Jones, Diane Morgan, Cristin Milioti, and Joe Keery. Clearly, this is a cast that is hilarious and even though they’re making fun of a year that is one of the worst in record, “Death to 2020” is a must-see just because of their involvement. In addition to Charlie Brooker on board as executive producer, the new film is executive produced by Annabel Jones and produced by Alison Marlow.
“Death to 2020” doesn’t have an official release date but Netflix says it’s “coming soon…too soon?” You can watch the teaser below.
Here’s the synopsis:
2020: A year so [insert adjective of choice here], even the creators of Black Mirror couldn’t make it up… but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a little something to add. Death to 2020 is a comedy event that tells the story of the dreadful year that was — and perhaps still is? This landmark documentary-style special weaves together some of the world’s most (fictitious) renowned voices with real-life archival footage spanning the past 12 months.
