Another week, another new Netflix original series is announced. The streaming giant that has a seemingly never-ending bank account has yet another series that will attempt to take away hours of your life. This time, Netflix is hoping to attract fans of short comedy series with fan-favorite actors with its new show “Dead to Me.”
Veteran actresses Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini star as two recent widows that quickly bond a group meeting. One is a bit of an uptight socialite, and the other is a more emotional free spirit. This sounds like the makings of a classic sitcom. However, things get thrown for a loop when it’s revealed that one of the ladies isn’t exactly who she seems, and has a dark, possibly criminal past.
The series stars Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini, James Marsden, Ed Asner, and Brandon Scott.
“Dead to Me” arrives on Netflix on May 3.
Here’s the synopsis:
Jen (Christina Applegate) is a sardonic widow determined to solve her husband’s recent hit-and-run murder. Judy (Linda Cardellini) is an optimistic free spirit who’s recently suffered her own tragic loss. When the two women meet at a support group, they become unlikely friends despite their polar-opposite personalities. But as they bond over bottles of wine, Entenmann’s cookies and a shared affinity for The Facts of Life, Judy desperately tries to shield Jen from a shocking secret that could destroy her life as she knows it. Dead to Me, created by Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls, One Big Happy), is an addictive dark comedy that dives into the painfully unfiltered, weirdly funny waters of grief, loss and forgiveness.
