David Yates hasn’t directed anything since “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” but it’s not for lack of trying. He’s been circling a number of projects such as “Cicero” and “Your Voice In My Head” only for them to meet various bumps in the road, while “Tarzan” was gearing, then put on hold, and then kicked back to life. He’s still accumulating stuff to do, signing on to the “Scarface” remake over the summer, and now another project is crossing his very busy desk.
THR reports that Yates will direct an adaptation of the graphic novel “Who Is Jake Ellis?” for Fox. The premise follows Jon Moore, a mercenary spy on the run, who is protected only by Jake Ellis, a man invisible to everyone except Jon. Sound a bit like “Fight Club” or “Memento“? Well, don’t be shocked that it’s being compared to those two movies along with the ‘Bourne‘ series, which explains why people in Hollywood want to make this happen. But it will take a while, as writers need to be found. But with ‘Ellis?’ already spawning a sequel in print form, you can bet Fox is thinking franchise.
For now, Yates is focused on “Tarzan,” which last we heard is aiming to shoot next year.
I think he knows the answer â he's making the movie.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
